MH TRADE PUBS SOLD

According to Masthead Online, 15 former MH trade books have been sold by Rogers to Glacial.
Imagine what our Old Colonel would think! Jack Fertile first brought this item to my attention, and commented that things are changing, adding that at least jobs were not lost. It still comes as a shock, though, to imagine these Maclean Hunter publications being sold. As he points out: The end of an era. Irvine Brace

Al Waters Dies

Al Waters Dies
Alan James Waters BA died March 30, 2010 at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, Toronto. He was 87 and a retiree from Maclean Hunter Publishing. He began as a sales representative with Monty Palmer’s Canadian Paint & Varnish. From there, he joined Photo Trade and Canadian Industrial Photography as advertising manager. During his long career at MH, he also was publisher of Canadian Packaging and CARD (Canadian Advertising Rates & Data).
After early retirement, he earned his BA at age 75, at University of Toronto--quite an accomplishment for a man of his age who had never attended university. He also travelled extensively, even to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Before joining MH, he had  served with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
His contribution to Canadian publishing and Maclean Hunter was an important one.
Al leaves his children: Leslie, Lynda, Jeff, Lori and Chris, their spouses, several grandchildren and a brother, Fred.

Bob Roberston died Jan. 2, 2010

Wednesday January 2, 2010
ROBERTSON, Robert ''Bob'' Walter
Following an accident, Bob passed away peacefully in his 86th year at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, January 2, 2010. Beloved husband of Elizabeth ''Betty'' (nee Dreisinger). Much loved father of Gord (Connie), Shirley and Barb (Dave Mann). Cherished Grandpa of Jen, Leanna and Charlotte. Dear brother of Dorothy Hunter. Predeceased by his brothers Fred and John. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed a 23 year long retirement, many hours of which were happily spent on the golf course with Betty and his friends in both Toronto and Florida. Previously, Bob worked for Maclean Hunter Publishing  for 44 years. He began his career in the mail room at 17 years old and worked his way up the corporate ladder to Vice President of the Business Publications Division. Bob also served as a Director of Maclean Hunter from 1969 to 1986. Among Bob's many accomplishments, the Medical Post was his brainchild. It is still in publication today and began as a result of his research and business plan back in 1965.
